Dr. Fournet is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience integrating clinical and health psychology. Her experience in the fields of health sciences, developmental and clinical psychology provides a unique perspective for promoting the overall development and psychological well-being of the clients with whom she works.

Dr. Fournet preceded her psychological education and training with a career in health-related sciences participating in clinical and basic science research at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston. She then pursued a doctorate in Clinical Psychology with the goal of obtaining extensive training in the area of psychological development across the lifespan to complement her basic science training and provide an integrative approach to the practice of clinical psychology.

Dr. Fournet obtained her master’s degree in Developmental Psychology at the University of Houston and her doctoral degree in Clinical/Medical Psychology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed an APA accredited clinical internship at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Following that she established a private clinical practice in Birmingham, Alabama working with individuals, couples and families.

Dr. Fournet’s clinical research in the field of psychology has focused on understanding the impact of stress on psychological development and the factors that contribute to adaptive coping processes. She has integrated her findings in this area within her clinical practice and conducts psychotherapy from a scientist-practitioner model that integrates well-known theoretical orientations within the field. Consistent with her training in clinical psychology and health sciences, she recognizes the intersection between physical and mental health and attends to the multitude of factors that contribute to an individual’s overall well-being. Her approach is positive and affirming as she strives to bring new perspectives and solutions to problems as an active participant in the therapy process.
